my original front cover

  • Once i had created this front cover, i realised it didn't have as many conventions needed to make it look like a magazine, it looked more like a poster. Because i think the picture of my friend in the bath is different and eye-catching, i used the image within my contents page. The font I used is bold and allows the magazine to make a statement, i used it on my newer version also in order to appeal straight away so interest will be made into finding out what the magazine consits of.
  • Setting the side titles out on a slant i thought would make the magazine look different and querky, however i feel it just looked messy and uneccesary.
  • From the beginning of planning my magazine i was very doubtful as to what to call it, however it didn't take long to agree on the name: 'Play.it' as i found it simple, effective and above all closely associated with music.
  • The title layout, i love as the pink colour carries on the conventions of a magazine aimed at female audiences.
  •  I illustrated the name of my magazine with a girl striking a dancing pose, a pink star and a speaker. The star i made using autoshapes in the programme 'microsoft word' i chose the colour pink to match the word 'play' and to again intice my female audience. The search engine 'google' was where i found my sillohuette and speaker, both help to portray conventions of a music genre magazine.
  • I played around with ideas of where to put my sillohuette and in the end found it looked alot better just at the left hand side of the name, the speaker i quickly found a place for, as the dot of the 'i' in the word 'it' helped me to manipulate the small word into looking alot more important.
  • A barcode i added to makes my magazine apear genuine to real magazines printed worldwide. I priced my magazine at £3.95 which i feel is too much of a high price to pay for an average magazine. To increase a sense of genuiniality in my magazine, i also included a european price also of 3eu.
  • A title i had included closely below which could be missed out easily as the focus point of the front cover appears with the picture and the heading, also the font is too small therefore readers would have to search for the date instead of it simplistically appearing clearly under the title.
  • Although i was proud of this front page, i still felt that drastic changes needed to be made in order for it to have a chance of looking like a real hit-selling magazine that girls of my age group would buy.

font page layouts

1
After browsing through may pictures for ideas , this effect i feel is different and will attract the audience as it's style is unfamiliar to the usual, basic full-pictures. The is almost 'photo-booth effect' allows the viewer to see different views of emotion and position which each of the 2 people take, although the camera's still, the pictures are all individually different  and unique.

Sometimes just a forwards view of the person isn't as revealing or interesting. Having this view would allow the audience to feel somehow connected with the person in a more intimate way. Also having these two simmilar but different shots gives more detail of the dress the girl is wearing so that the female audience can appriciate the dress to a fuller extent.

Again, this image allows the audience to 'get to know' the person. Using close-up shots and the rule of thirds. Also this image is one which will tie in with my natural themed magazine. I think 'natural beauty' appeals to all woman audiences as they don't feel pressuried into 'looking good' from other figures shown in other magazines covered in make-up. A natural picture gives-off a calm, relaxing effect as the cool and neutral colours create the atmosphere of a pleasant sunny day in the woods.

Inside magazine font ideas

As this text will appear inside the magazine, i don't want it to be as bold and dominant as the title. I have chosen to use fancy, curly text to appeal to my female audience and to make my pages look fancy, pretty and stylish. My thoughts now are that i will use fonts 1 and 6 as they appear more appealing to me, however my ideas may change as my magazine progresses.

Name of my Magazine, Font choices for front cover

The front cover of my magazine needs a strong, bold and blocked text. The name of the magazine is just as important as the front cover picture as it's vital for marketing purposes. Most readers will choose a magazine that they know and trust, therefore seeing and recognising the title is important if the magazine is to sell well.
The first text i like the best so far and the last text i think will be appropriate but my ideas may well change as i piece together my magazine and see what suits the page the most.

outline of the equipment/technologies i will use

To make my magazine, i will be using a SLR camera which will help to range my shots and produce high definition, high quality images. To help me produce my desired shots, i will be using the lighting kit from the studio to portray a proffessional photo-shoot pictures to attract my female audience. To edit and change shape/size e.c.t of my pictures i will be using the Photoshop programme and to piece the magazine together, i will be using the Indesign programme.
these programmes are easy to use and beneficial in creating my coursework, after i take the pictures i will upload using a USB device my pictures onto a college computer and edit from there.

Magazine Article Draft

Lexie O’connor

Lexie O’conors recent split from the band: ‘The Plastic Police’ made shocking headlines over past few weeks as the band was due to preform at the O2 arena for a sell-out gig in December. Fans are shocked and devastated at the news and want an answer. Here it is! Lexie speaks exclusively to ‘ PLAY ‘ magazine about what happened to the band, her plans on becoming a top solo artist and plans for the future.
- So Lexie…these past few weeks have got the whole world talking, the media have been going wild and pictures of your face dominate every front-page cover. So, what was your reason for spiltting up with the girls from “The Plastic Police’?
‘I love the girls to pieces, we’ve had some amazing memories and I will treasure them. I guess the reason for me leaving is that, I just want a change, I feel the music industry is evolving and that there was no place for our genre of pop-music. As Frankie was the lead singer, I felt I couldn’t express myself and that the band was holding me back from reaching my potential.’
- What do you think of all the media attention?
“To be honest with you, i wasn’t expecting the media to be as cruel, the other day I was driving back from recording my new single: ‘Painful Past’ which is out in February. A group of paparazzi launched onto my car bonet! I nearly had an accident! I guess they just need a picture of me looking bad, my recent departure from one of the top girl bands is big news I guess.”
- Some sources say you and Frankie had a huge argument outside a hotel in Los Angelies, is this true?
[shocked]“What? That’s crazy! No that never happened, I invited the girls including Frankie to the hotel to talk things over. These past few weeks have been mad and I didn’t want to leave my girls with any hard feelings, they are all very talented girls.”
-Now you’ve left ‘The Plastic Police’..what’s your next step?
“I’m taking things slow for a while, getting my feet back on the ground. I will be realeasing a new album in May 2011 called: ‘Tainted hearts” Which I’m hoping will be a success. Also I’m hoping to spend a lot of time with my wonderful husband Chase!”
- We all are despereate to ask the question: are we expecting a new O’connor addition to the family?
“Aren’t you all nosey! [laughs] Chase and I have been talking about it, I very much want to start a family. Hopefully once my career is settled we can start the planning!”0
